The brewing industry in Maryland was started in 1703 in Annapolis by Benjamin Fordham. Since then, over 50 breweries have opened in Maryland. We will be discussing the history of the Maryland Craft Beers as well as their different characteristics as compared with some of the Italian Craft Beers. Four different Neapolitan Pizzas will be paired with the craft beers for tasting. Finish with a Homemade Dessert paired with a craft beer tasting. Campania is not only the home region of Naples and pizza, it also has a long history with viticulture (grape growing) and viniculture (wine making). Located in southern Italy, at the 'shin' of Italy's boot, Campania has seen a renaissance in their wine industry. Some of the most famous wines from the region include Falanghina, Vesuvio, Taurasi and Aglianico. We will be discussing the history of the Campania wines as well as their different characteristics while paired with 4 different Neapolitan Pizzas. Finish with a homemade dessert paired with a Campania Wine. A cup of Italian press coffee will complete the class.

Puglia produces 17% of all the wine in Italy, more wine than any other Italian region. The long, thin peninsula, in the far south-eastern corner of the 'boot' of Italy is where Puglia excels at warm-climate wines made with indigenous grapes. Some of the more prominent wines from the region include Negroamaro, Primitivo, Nero di Troia, and Minutolo. We will be discussing the history of the Puglia wines as well as their different characteristics while paired with 4 different Neapolitan Pizzas. Finish with a Homemade Desert paired with a Puglia Wine. A cup of Italian press coffee or cappuccino will complete the class.

How to Make Neapolitan Pizza at Home     $120    November 2nd, 2014, 11am-1:30pm

  • Obtain a Neapolitan Pizza Dough Recipe
  • Learn Neapolitan Dough Pressing Techniques
  • View up close the techniques learned in class, while our Pizzaolio makes and cooks a pizza of your choice
  • Enjoy pizza with a glass of wine or beer and discuss how the techniques learned in class create the Neapolitan traditional pizza
  • Finish with some homemade Tiramisu and cup of Italian press coffee
An authentic Neapolitan pizza is typically made with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. They can be made with ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes, which grow on the volcanic plains to the south of Mount Vesuvius, and mozzarella di bufala Campana, made with the milk from water buffalo raised in the marshlands of Campania and Lazio in a semi-wild state, fresh basil, and extra virgin olive oil. In this class you will learn how to make, press, and cook the dough, which is specific to creating the thin, crispy texture specific to the Neapolitan Pizza as seen in the movie "Eat, Pray, Love". You will learn the tomato sauce recipe and how to top the pizzas to get that amazing combination of simple flavors that make Neapolitan Pizzas famous. You will get to enjoy some homemade mozzarella and focaccia with an Italian wine as an appetizer, a Neapolitan Pizza with a glass of wine or beer, and finish with homemade Tiramisu and a cup of Italian press coffee. This is an 18+ event; minors must be accompanied by an adult

Piemonte wine is the range of Italian wines made in the province of Piedmont in the northwestern corner of Italy. The best-known wines from the region include Barolo and Barbaresco. Each year, the three regions of Sicily, Puglia and Veneto vie for first place as producer of the largest amount of Italian wine. Veneto may lose that contest to one of its southern neighbors, however the winner for Italy’s top maker of DOC (or quality-legislated) wine is always Veneto, made in the north-eastern corner of Italy. The best-known wines from the region include Soave, Valpolicella, Bardolino and Prosecco. We will be discussing the history of the Veneto wines as well as their different characteristics while paired with 4 different Neapolitan Pizzas. Finish with a Homemade Dessert paired with Prosecco.
